How often have we heard the prejudice that vulnerable masculinity is only something for little boys, as if it were child’s play, and a real man must not be either sensitive or vulnerable? How often have we been raised by both women and men in our environment with toxic sentences that have led to a wound in our personality development, to an injury, rather than to a healthy development?

Vulnerability also concerns men – it is a fundamentally human aspect. Emotions are independent of gender. The prevailing societal image of a man does not correspond to reality; it is incomplete and often misleading. This image fosters the emergence of personalities who are in conflict with their own intimacy, sensitivity, and environment.

It is an important step towards a healthier masculinity to recognize that this image should no longer serve us as a role model and that this kind of unwanted and destructive upbringing hampers our development as men. We strive for more clarity, more connection, and a more conscious masculinity.

Vulnerability and Masculinity: A New Beginning for a Healthier Masculinity

In our society, an image of masculinity is often painted that leaves little room for vulnerability and sensitivity. Little boys frequently hear that they must be strong, that tears and sensitivity do not belong to a ‚real man‘. These messages come from both genders and shape the personality development of many men, directing them towards inner wounds and injuries rather than healthy development.

But it is time to question and rewrite this image. Vulnerability is also a man’s matter and it is a fundamental, human aspect, regardless of gender. The conventional societal image of a man is incomplete and often misleading. It has produced a broken individual – an enemy of his own intimacy, sensitivity, and environment.

Recognizing that this outdated image should no longer serve us as a role model is an important step on the path to healthier masculinity. It’s about rejecting the unhealthy and unwanted aspects of traditional images of masculinity and embarking on a new path that includes openness to emotions and vulnerability.

A more conscious masculinity means allowing oneself and other men to be complete, emotional beings. It’s about recognizing that strength also lies in showing one’s vulnerability and talking about feelings. This opens up the possibility for more clarity, connection, and a deeper understanding of oneself and others.

It’s time to welcome a new era of masculinity – an era in which men can be both strong and sensitive, without having to fear criticism or ridicule. An era in which men view their emotions as strength, not weakness. By supporting and promoting this change, we can help create a healthier, more open, and empathetic society where every person, regardless of gender, can express and experience their full emotional range.

I warmly invite you to write to me and share your thoughts with me.

Music for Plants

Music for Plants

I’ve been playing with this idea in my head for months and months and now the time has come. I am very happy to have so many artists with me. We’ll be playing a concert for plants. But there will be not just a concert, but a dynamic TV-program with music and other performances.
Events by people for people have been rare in the last few months, because the corona requirements and the related distance regulations make it almost impossible to bring larger groups of people together. Both artists and the public are suffering from the current situation and want a return to normality. The El Liceu Opera House in Barcelona @liceu_opera_barcelona and the artist @eugenioampudia found a creative way to deal with the situation. Last summer there was a full house concert there, but the audience consisted of 2,292 potted plants. The idea was a celebration of an apparent reopening with a string quartet concert with musicians of the Opera House.

When I saw it, it was clear to me that I wanted to do it here too, but bigger so that I could offer artists a platform where they could show their work. And thus to offer artists the opportunity to generate high-quality material in the form of video and audio with which they can also present themselves in public.

Now there will also be a concert for plants in Oldenburg, because just like humans, they too react to musical vibrations and, for example, can grow better. The event was initiated by Me and I am the artistic director and co-organizer of the production . As a cooperation between the Theater Laboratorium Oldenburg e.V., @kulturgesichter0441 Blumen Cordes, Oldenburg Eins, the city of Oldenburg and various Oldenburg cultural workers, 182 plants will take place in the hall of the Theater Laboratorium in order to listen to the sounds of local musicians. The approximately two-hour concert will be recorded by a television team from the local broadcaster Oeins and broadcast on March 12th, 2021 from 9:00 p.m.

Big Thank to Oldenburg Eins (Sabine Monitor and Team) and Izabela Mittwollen for the great pictures!

Premiere: 12.03.2021 7pm (Berlin Time)

Next Stream: 14.03.2021 7pm and 11pm (Berlin Time)
